William Wilson

William Wilson (Dec 20th 1834 - ??)

This is PROBABLY the right William - no proof yet.

1871 Census

William Wilson 36 Piercebridge, Durham, England Head Ingleton Durham
Margaret Wilson 36 Marwood, Durham, England Wife Ingleton Durham (must have died between 1871 and 1881)
Mary Wilson 7 New Shildon, Durham, England Daughter Ingleton Durham
Elisabeth Wilson 4 New Shildon, Durham, England Daughter Ingleton Durham (What happened to her in the 1881 census?)
Robert Wilson 2 Darlington, Durham, England Son Ingleton Durham
Eliza Wilson 1 day Ingleton, Durham, England Daughter Ingleton Durham
Frances Wegel 46 Barnard Castle, Durham, England Widow, Apprentice Ingleton Durham (original census seems to say 'Laundress' not apprentice, AND it say's "Wife's sister" looks like a W for widow (?) looks more like 36 than 46 and Wegel looks more like MeGee but apart from that....)

Same family 1881 Census

William Wilson 46 Piercebridge, Durham, England Head Blacksmith, widower.
Mary Wilson 17 Shildon, Durham, England Daughter Barnard Castle
Robert W. Wilson 12 Darlington, Durham, England Son Barnard Castle
Eliza Wilson 10 Ingleton, Durham, England Daughter Barnard Castle
Fanny Wilson 6 Langleydale, Durham, England Daughter Barnard Castle

1891 census at Chapel House, Barnard Castle

William Wilson, 56, head, Blacksmith

Eliza Wilson, 54, wife, born Barnard Castle Moor

Emily Wilson, 14, born Barnard Castle Moor.

Eliza Wilson, age 20, is a domestic servant at 81 Galgate, Barnard Castle, the home of Mr and Mrs Arrowsmith, Butcher and his wife.

(notes: William no longer a widower. Pure conjecture, but his new wife is Eliza, born 1837 and I just wonder if that is his first wife's sister, Eliza, born 1837 in Marwood? Eliza's place of birth is shown as "Barnard Castle Moor" I think "Moor", could really be abbreviation for Marwood. By that time Marwood was part of Barnard Castle. "Daughter" Emily would have been 4 at time of the 1881 census but was not there, so I wonder if she was Eliza's child from a previous marriage?
